On Friday I flew out to Boston for Andrew & Paige’s wedding. I’d hired Andrew to the Palo Alto office 4 years ago as an Intern and now he was getting married! I landed early at 12:30 (thank god as the wedding was at 4:15 p.m.) and I was at my hotel at 1:10 p.m.!
The wedding was lovely. A nice ceremony followed and then a reception on the 33rd floor of a Boston high rise building with amazing views over the city. David and I also managed to slip in a quick drink with our friends Kevin & Emily back at our hotel before the ceremony. You see that was all part of my plan…get drunk enough to not worry that I’d been up 22 hrs and prevent jet lag kicking in. I drank just enough, to be merry enough to dance to my hearts content, but not get too sleepy. Thankfully though around 11:00 p.m. as I asked for another white wine, David appropriately told me it was about time we left. Apparently I was asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow.
Paige looked stunning and Andrew looked very handsome. They even managed a very rehearsed first dance which was executed flawlessly. But then again what do I know about dancing? You see this is the opinionated bit in the blog. I’ve been to a fair few weddings now and about 50/50 of them the couple has done a rehearsed dance. I’m not sure I agree. I mean it looks good, but as Paige said she couldn’t drink until it was over, obviously because she had to remember it. I’ve known people before get worked up; my friend Anna once had to give a speech at her 18th birthday party. She was so nervous she looked horrendously pale throughout and I don’t think she enjoyed it at all. Shouldn’t these events and weddings in particular really just be about you and your husband having fun?
So…Saturday was a trip around Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox with the wedding party. I had a horrendous headache (a great combination of alcohol, heat and jet lag) and the Boston humidity got to me. Then in the afternoon, despite wanting to run around the beautiful city of Boston, a run in that humidity was never going to happen. So I ran 92 minutes on the treadmill in the hotel, 8 miles, and had nothing but a dull game of soccer between Columbus Crew and Colorado Rapids to keep me entertained. It was hard going, but I was glad I did it. The weekend ended with a lovely dinner with Matt Lloyd and his wife Melanie in Cambridge, MA. So there you have it 44 hours in Boston.
Efficient Boston Logan Airport…I even managed to nip into the Boston office for 10 minutes to say hi.
Can you two resolve peacefully which of you hired poor Andrew. Either way, you're not getting the Nobel prize for it, you know.
And most of the time, weddings should not be about you and your husband having fun, if you're a bloke. You've spent too long in SF.

Are you REALLY in London for work? Over 50% of your blogs are from different cities! We're almost settled in Wimbledon and will have to get together very soon.
