They say 'Love is Blind' but today that's okay with me.
When you love someone you think they're pretty amazing in every way. You think they're the best at everything they do. You think they are beyond criticizing (well almost!) and you get annoyed whenever anyone says something bad about them.
Well today I'm blind.

Today I woke up hungover. My friend Amy came over last night and we had a great catch up and I drank far too much wine. I fact I actually went to bed past 1 a.m. and woke up at 3:40 a.m. with my TV still on! (David was in Seattle.)
However, after much deliberation I managed to get out of bed (around 9:30 a.m.!) and go to the gym. I walked 4 miles with 2 pound weights in my hand just to punish myself for the indulgence of last night!
Maybe I'm too old for hangovers.
Afterwards I felt so guilty just lounging around at home, I decided to go to the dump/tip in South San Francisco and get rid of the wood ripped out from the closets and the extra 'not-needed' paint. Also I dumped 28 florescent light bulbs that had been cluttering up the garage for months. Our nice neighbors had asked me to get rid of them.
So there you have it. A dull day...
Punctured by a phone call from my new boss who called me to tell me I have a trip to Houston, Texas next Wednesday, so seeing James Blunt in concert is no longer an option! However, I'm very excited about the new week, the new job and a trip to Texas. I've never been. My mum even suggested I could use my new American passport. Although I've heard Texas is a very unique State, I'm pretty sure you don't need a passport to get there ;-)
I think I'm ready to go back to work. Less hangovers that's for sure.
Well I thought it was about time I gave you all an update into what I've been doing with my time off. Its been 2 weeks and its flown by. I can honestly say I think I could get used to the life of a stay-at-home-mom...except without the kid thing!!!
So what have I done?
1) Painted the study
2) Painted the den/spare room
3) Obtained my AMERICAN passport
4) Bought a new car
5) Obtained a parking permit to park said car outside my house
6) Got a new Social Security Card to reflect my new citizenship status
7) Ripped out closets and installed new ones in a) my closet b) David's closet and c) the study closet
8) Updated all car insurance documents!
9) Had a alarm system installed in the house and have it linked to the police and fire (and it works - due to an error by the installer I got to check out the local, hunky police department!)
10) Had a washer/dryer guy come round and remove 4 years worth of lint surrounding our enclosed dryer!
11) Replace the filter on the fridge
12) Get up to date with all our bills - and there's many more now :-(
13) Walked almost 4 miles most days...
14) If you've read this far I'm impressed!
See it may sound boring to some of you, but to me its about getting my life in order and making our home a better place. That way David and I can enjoy our weekends together. This weekend we're trying to go off skiing again on Saturday. I say try because although we went last Saturday - with 120 mile per hour winds and a blizzard it was impossible to actually ski!

I spoke to my sister this morning and on this English Mother's Day she was making a Sunday lunch of pork roast and roast potatoes. I was very jealous of this lovely meal, however today we had Anu and Stephanie over for lunch with their beautiful daughter Sabina.
We ate outside in our garden for the first time. It was a wonderful sunday lunch - California style. We followed it up by a walk to Mountain Lake Park for a go on the swings!
My friend came round for lunch today. She's in a similar situation to me; finished one job and off work before starting another. We sat, chatted, and discussed what we'd do during our time off. We paused for a moment and marvelled at the fact that it was a Monday lunch time and we were enjoying cheese, bread, grapes and chips. All that was missing was the wine. We refrained from drinking alcohol as she was off to Target to organize her paper work after a year of clutter and I was about to spend an afternoon painting!
I woke before David's alarm and I was in the gym before 8:30 a.m., I'd walked almost 4 miles before 9:30 a.m. and I even managed a trip to the grocery store before my visit to the paint shop just after 10 a.m. Not everybody's idea of a restful time off work, but certainly my idea of maximizing my 2 weeks.
I tried to busy myself so I wouldn't think about the hussle and bussle that my former colleagues were going through, but I couldn't help thinking about them as I tried to concentrate on not getting the yellow paint on the ceiling in our spare room...
This evening, I recieved a nice email from someone I work with closely in my profession. A lovely gentleman who never ceases to send me an email when I need a friendly 'hello.' It reminds me of a saying David always says - I believe from his grandfather - "in life there are people and there are bicycle pumps."
I'm lucky to know a lot of good people and I'll choose to forgot the bicycle pumps...
I'm sat here blogging and there was a very hard shake. It was like a really bad gust of wind, shaking the house. I just started a new blog and wrote the headline 'Did I just feel an earthquake?' I have the news on and low and behold they just announced it. I quickly rewrote my blog.
It happened at 10:08 p.m. and i got a nervous feeling in my stomach. Sure its a bit exciting, but its also a bit scary. I'm here alone! Ahhhhh!
Well at least most of our valuables are packed away neatly, so they wouldn't get damaged anyway!
It was only 2.9 on the ricter scale and located 2 miles east of Berkeley. I rarely feel earthquakes less than 4! Apparently that was the third one today...
MEG RYAN WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?
This evening I've been packing boxes all night ready for the move and after a few busy hours I decided to sit down and watch an episode of Oprah. Meg Ryan was on. She looks awful. She doesn't look like Meg Ryan. The pretty person is gone. You're just struck by these over inflated lips, a smooth but lifeless complexion. She clearly has had too much plastic surgery.
Same with Nicole Kidman.
I watched an entertainment program the other day and the interviewer had a face full of plastic surgery. The person she was interviewing (Kenny Rogers) had been under the knife too. And the younger lovely wife of Kenny Rogers had been altered beyond recognition too.
Why do they do it?
Don't they know they look ridiculous. Don't they know they just don't look like they used to.
I like to look nice; sure I'd love to be the perfect size...whatever, but I'm not about to become obsessed about it. Sure I wish I didn't have those laughter lines and crows feet, but I'm not about to get surgery to make me look less like my Dad, less like my mum and less like my sister.
Why are some people so vain? Why do some people sacrifice so much in the hope of looking perfect?
